Student club aims to build school pride and community across campus.
This story is part of a new series spotlighting 新澳门六合彩开奖结果 student clubs. In this installment we go inside Redzone, one of more than 100 student-run clubs on campus.
At 新澳门六合彩开奖结果’s Center for Student Involvement, there are five major organizations that are supported. One of these is Redzone, a vibrant group that is about creating and promoting Redhawk school spirit. You may have seen its members at various sporting events on campus as the mission statement of the group is “to bridge the gap between athletics and the student body and increase school spirit on our campus.”
“Redzone does a good job being a club run by students for students,” says Redzone President Peter Vendeventerp, ’23. “We want to sell our authentic selves and want others to feel like they are a part of the school experience. We are not afraid to push things we want to do and we encourage students to push with us.”
Since 2020, Vendeventerp has been involved with the club, first as a cabinet member before becoming president this year. Speaking with him, it’s clear that Redzone is eager for more students to participate and contribute to the movement the club stands for.
“I think that many people associate school spirit with sports but it’s much more than that. We are in such a unique location and time in this country. Being in a place like 新澳门六合彩开奖结果 U allows students to have opportunities to grow passions,” says Vendeventerp. “Being in Redzone has grown my passions outside of what I originally thought they were.”
But what does school spirit look like, particularly for students who don’t live on campus? For Redzone, it’s about reaching those very students who feel less connected to campus, especially graduate, commuter or transfer students. The goal of this organization is to create a full community of students that consider 新澳门六合彩开奖结果 U to be their second home.
Want to be part of the club? Check out one of Redzone's upcoming events such as Speed Friending, happening Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Campion Ballroom. Meet and mingle with other Redhawks while enjoying snacks and music.
