Teaching and Practice Coordinator: Birmingham аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û Hub Lead

Samina Shafieq

I joined the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û in June 2021 and took up my position as Teaching and Practice Coordinator: аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û Hub Lead. I have been teaching in Further Education since 2005, across a wide range of subjects.

I returned to higher Education as a mature student and completed my Psychology BSc (Hons) in 2014. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Since 2014 I have been teaching in Health and Social Science/Social Care in a number of educational settings in further and higher education.

I strongly believe higher education and the opportunities it brings should be available to all regardless of their backgrounds.

I believe in a student centred approach to teaching and learning and my teaching style aims to develop students’ critical thinking abilities, as this allows students to create links to contemporary social issues.

I teach in an interactive and inclusive style that seeks to engage all students, regardless of previous qualifications and academic ability.

The courses that I design and teach are Wellbeing in Society, Making Sense of Society, Leadership and Management, Contemporary Issues in Health and Social Science, Ethical Issues in Health and Social Science, Evidence Based Practice and Qualitative Research Methods.

I passionately believe that the realities of our contemporary world and its challenges and problems exist due to inequalities in society.
