Marinilka Kimbro, PhD

Biography

Professor Kimbro received her PhD in Accounting from the University of Maryland in College Park and has held research appointments at the University of Maryland, Groupe HEC-Paris, Hong Kong Polytechnic, IE- Madrid, University of Washington- Tacoma and Gonzaga. Originally from Puerto Rico, Marinilka says that the “island boundaries” that she grew up with, drove her to travel and work all over the world - and she believes this experience enhanced not only her research, but also her teaching, something for which she has a passion for. Her refereed publications appear in: Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting & Economics, Journal of International Financial Management & Accounting, International Journal of Business Performance Management, Journal of Forensic & Investigative Accounting, Journal of International Accounting Research, among others. Her research has been recognized by: Wall Street Journal, Roosevelt Institute, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Star Tribune, The Columbus Dispatch, Harvard Law School Forum, The South China Morning Post, 新澳门六合彩开奖结果 Business Magazine and Handelsblatt. Dr. Kimbro is currently a Director of the WSCPA’s and she has been actively involved in executive training at: WSCPA, SFC Hong Kong, Goldman Sachs Asia, Credit Suisse, E&Y, World Bank, NYU and the Global Forum, among others. She has received numerous teaching awards and her students rave about her passion and ability to “bring real-world contemporary issues to the classroom” and by making accounting “relevant, intellectually challenging and fun”.

Kimbro has brought CEOs and CFOs from the top listed firms in the NW to her valuation class to listen to her students’ equity research reports. C-Level executives from firms like Expedia, PACCAR, Starbucks, Costco, Expeditors, Nordstrom, Outerwall, F5, Tableau, Cray, Blue Nile, Weyerhaeuser, Plum Creek, Zillow and Zumiez, have all come to SU to hear students present in her . Expedia’s CFO Mark Okerstrom noted: “It was a pleasure to be involved. I thought the analysis and presentation of the team was very insightful – a credit to the high caliber of the educational environment the students and faculty have created at SU!” The students agree. “I have never worked as hard in my life,” said Gina Greiner. “This was - by far - the most demanding course I’ve been in, but at the same time, I learned more than any other course.
