Biography

In a career of over 15 years in executive-level legal and policy counsel roles in tech and telecom, Professor Cosson has gained deep expertise at both public policy advocacy and compliance counseling. He has implemented compliance programs, provided product counsel, and delivered transactional support, as well as developing public affairs campaigns, messaging, and stakeholder engagement strategies. He is currently Senior Counsel, Privacy and Cybersecurity, at REI where he delivers legal, strategic, and risk management advice, covering privacy, personalization, cybersecurity, and technology matters. Prior to working at REI, Professor Cosson was the Director of Legal Affairs, Privacy and Data Security at T-Mobile for 12 years, developing a Responsible AI program, among other projects, handling incident response and advising on supplier risk management. Before that, he was Senior Policy Counsel at Microsoft, providing policy analysis to support global government affairs teams, on matters such as child online safety, free expression, and human rights, and engaging policy stakeholders around the globe. Among other work at Microsoft, Chuck was a founding board member of the Global Network Initiative, and program manager for the US-China Internet Industry Forum.
